Kolkata: The second test between India and South Africa is to be played in Guwahati from 22 to 26 November, but a big question has arisen over the availability of Indian captain Shubman Gill. While batting during the Kolkata Test, he suddenly suffered severe neck pain, due to which he retired hurt and walked off the field. Now the news is that his recovery may take time, and it seems difficult for him to play his second test.

What happened to Gill in the Kolkata Test?

Gill felt severe pain while batting after scoring 4 runs in just three balls. The pain increased so much that he had to leave the field immediately. After this he was taken to the hospital, where he was kept under observation. According to reports, doctors monitored his condition throughout the night. Initial investigation has revealed that it may take a few days for Gill to recover completely.

If Gill does not play, then who will take over the captaincy?

After Gill left the field, wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant took command of the team. Pant led the entire game of the second day as captain. If Gill remains out of the Guwahati Test as well, then there is a possibility that Pant will captain the team once again. An official statement from BCCI is awaited, but the team management is internally considering options.

Is Gill's injury caused by something serious?

Indian bowling coach Morne Morkel gave a big statement on Gill's injury. He said that it does not appear to be an injury caused by load management or excessive fatigue. According to Morkel, Gill is a very fit player and takes very good care of himself. He said that perhaps this stiff neck might have happened suddenly, as it often happens after bad sleep. But unfortunately this incident happened on a day when India needed a strong start.

Will this injury affect India's strategy?

Gill's injury is not limited to captaincy only. He is counted among India's most reliable batsmen in the top order. If he does not play in the second Test, India will have to make changes in the opening slot. Also, leadership will also be affected, because Gill was being seen as the new captain, and this series was important for him.
